We are very pleased to announce the 7th Annual Pensacola Canstruction 2014!  This year we are opening up the event to invite the entire community to participate.  Because of multiple requests from the public to get involved with Canstruction, we wanted to find a way to engage the general public while still allowing AIA members to provide leadership to the event.

The way it will work this year is that every team needs to have one AIA member as a team leader.   Teams can made up from the general public and do not need to be connected to the architecture, engineering or construction industry.  This may include non-profit groups, churches, schools, companies, etc.   For example, an architect or architectural firm will have ability this year to partner with a favorite client and together they will build an entry for Canstruction.

What we are looking for at this time is a commitment from AIA members to be Canstruction team leaders.  Also we would like to know if you have an organization you already have in mind that you would like to team with or would like help identifying an organization.   This year we would like to increase our local schools participation and need volunteers to be mentors/team leaders for a classroom or a school.

What is Canstruction?

Canstruction® is a unique charity which hosts competitions, exhibitions and events showcasing colossal structures made entirely out of full cans of food. After the structures are built, the creations go on display to the public as a giant art exhibition. At the end of the event, all food is donated to local hunger relief organizations.

 

When is Canstruction?
Canstruction this year will official open during September's Gallery Night which is Friday September 19th, 2014.   The "build night" will be held the evening prior to Gallery Night which is Thursday September 18th, 2014.  Please visit

Where is Canstruction?
Canstruction will be held at Artel Gallery located at 223 South Palafox Place.


Where does all the food go?

All food donation will be given to MANNA Pantries.  MANNA Pantries is a short-term emergency food distribution organization. MANNA serves more than 40,000 people in Northwest Florida annually through its network of five distribution sites spread throughout Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.  Please visit http://www.mannafoodpantries.org/pantries.html for more information about MANNA Pantries



Our architectural firm wants to participate as we always have in past years, can we

enter again this way? 

Yes, any organization or group may participate as long as they have at least one AIA member serving as team leader.



I want to participate but don't have a team in place, how can I get involved?  

Please contact ckarchitectaia@gmail.com and we will find a team for you.

Can more than one AIA member be on a team?

Yes

Will sponsorship money be available to teams this year?  No, because of the flooding that occurred this spring Manna Food Pantries lost their entire food inventory and Manna is still in the process of rebuilding their inventory and facility.

Can we find our own sponsors? 

Yes, we encourage you to seek out sponsors for your team.  Please tell sponsors you are donating 100% of their donation to Manna Food Pantries that feeds our local families in need.

Can we build our entry at a location other than Artel Gallery?  

No, however depending on the number of entries we have, we might need to find an "overflow" location.   Canstruction organizers will advise you if the build location is at an alternate location.


How much will an entry cost to build?  

We are asking teams to plan on minimum for 750 cans for their entry; we encourage you to shop around for your cans at local grocery stores. There will be a small entry fee ($50 per team) to cover the costs of hosting the event.
