Form-based standard for Pensacola: A Walking Tour

The Pensacola City Council will vote in August on implementing form-based development standards in several areas of the City’s CRA. Join us for a walking tour in the Belmont Devilliers neighborhood as we explore firsthand the existing buildings and development patterns and how they will be impacted if the standards are implemented.

Form-based codes are an increasingly popular alternative to or supplement to existing zoning codes. Much of this is driven by the realization that zoning codes alone do not protect the character of historic neighborhoods, nor do they support walkable communities. Pensacola’s standards were developed by DPZ CoDesign through an extensive public engagement process that began last February.

We’ll meet at the southeast corner of Belmont and Devilliers—next to Five Sisters Blues Café at 8:00 am on August 3. There is plenty of onstreet parking nearby, and also a City of Pensacola parking lot one block west on the south side of Belmont St.

The tour is led by Christian Wagley, an advocate for a more bicycle and pedestrian-friendly Pensacola. With the informal nature of the tour, there will be plenty of opportunity for discussion and questions.
