If you want your house to be energy efficient, have good indoor air quality, be more comfortable and durable, then you need to control the heat, air and moisture flow through the building enclosure and forced air distribution system.

The intent of this presentation is to show homeowners practical, low cost strategies that they can do themselves to reduce their energy costs, which consequently help to improve the indoor air quality, comfort, and durability of their house.

For homeowners that would prefer to have a company that specializes in weatherization provide an energy audit/assessment and prioritized recommendations to improve the performance of their home, this process will be presented as well.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1. Gain a fundamental understanding of the consequences of uncontrolled heat, air and moisture flow through the building enclosure.

2. Implement low cost energy retrofit strategies to reduce unintended air infiltration and ex-filtration through the building enclosure and forced air duct distribution system.

3. Implement low cost energy retrofit strategies to reduce your energy costs, which consequently help to improve the health and comfort of the indoor environment, and durability of the building.

4. Contact various weatherization organizations that provide energy audits/assessments that actually perform energy retrofits.

Tony, unknowingly, started his construction career at the age of 12, when he built his first tree-house in a banyan tree in Melbourne Beach FL. At 16, he took his first paying construction job helping to frame houses.

In a building career that has spanned 45+ years he has built, and/or helped to build, hundreds of houses, bridges, apartments, condos, high-rise buildings, schools, churches, and many other structures throughout Florida, North Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Arizona, and Canada.

Tony is certified by the Energy and Environmental Building Association as a Master Builder. He has built houses that have received numerous national energy, IAQ, and/or green building certifications such as: Energy Star, Environments For Living, USDOE/Building America Builder’s Challenge-Net Zero Energy, USGBC/LEED for Homes-Platinum, NAHB-Green Model Home, American Lung Association-Health House and EPA-Indoor Air Quality Plus.
